Anita Ekberg

 

Kerstin Marianne Ekberg (Swedish pronunciation (listen) 29 September 1931 - 1 January 2015) was an Swedish actress best known for her beautiful body and stunning beauty. Her iconic character of Sylvia in Federico Fellini's film La Dolce Vita (1960) earned her fame. Ekberg primarily worked in Italy where she became a permanent residence in 1964. Anita Ekberg was the eighth child in a family of eight. Anita was a fashion model in her teens. On the advice of her mother, Ekberg entered Miss Malmo in 1950. This resulted in her being selected for the Miss Sweden contest which she took home. Despite not being fluent in English and Swedish, she travelled to the United States to compete to win the Miss Universe title for 1951. Although it was an informal pageant that was later made an official pageant, it was official in 1952. Ekberg was not the Miss Universe winner, but she was among six finalists. However, she did earn the contract of Universal Studios as a starlet. Ekberg was a Universal starlet, where she was taught dance, drama, and elocution. She appeared briefly in The Mississippi Gambler (1953), Abbott and Costello go to Mars (1953), Take Me to Town (1953) as well as The Golden Blade (53).
