Yvonne Joyce Craig

 Yvonne Joyce Craig, May 16, 1937 until August 17, 2015. Craig was an American dancer and actress who was popular for her performances as Batgirl in the 1960s' tv series Batman and Marta her character, Marta, the Orion slave girl Marta from Star Trek's episode "Whom Gods Deceive" (1969). The Huffington Post referred to her as "a pioneer in female superheroes" on television. Yvonne Craig was born and was raised in Taylorville, Illinois. Her family moved to Dallas in 1951. She was a student at W. H. Adamson High School, Sunset High School, and later W. H. Adamson High School. The only problem was that she didn't graduate because she was not awarded "one PE credit". After being spotted by Alexandra Danilova, a ballerina and instructor, Craig joined the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo as its youngest member of the corps de ballet. It was a wonderful experience that helped her perform stunts in the role of Batgirl. In 1957, she left the company "over disagreements over changes to casting". She relocated to Los Angeles in hopes of getting back into dance. But she soon found herself in film roles. One of her first television appearances was in the episode from the TV series Perry Mason ("The Case of the Lazy Lover" 1958) alongside Neil Hamilton, who played her stepfather (later Hamilton played Police Commissioner James Gordon, Batgirl's father). Following her appearances in The Young Land, The Gene Krupa Story (all 1959), and Gidget (all 1958) she was also a guest on Beverly Mills on the TV show Mr. Lucky (also 1959). Craig was a part of Bing Crosby in High Time (1960) and in Seven Women from Hell (1961) which was co-starred with Cesar Romero. In 1962, she appeared in the television show Western Laramie in the episode "The Long Road Back".Craig starred in roles with Elvis Presley in two films which included It Happened At the World's Fair (1963) and Kissin Cousins (1964). In the year 1966, she was a part-time actress in Mars Needs Women. In 1967, she played an Russian ballet dancer in In Like Flint.
