Don Rickles Biography

  Don Rickles was an American actor, comedian, author, and stand-up comedian. He was among the most admired and well-known entertainers. He was a combination of humor and quick wit and a genuine love for his audience, that made him a magnet for laughter, fun, and amusement. His ability to make insults sound humorous and not offensive made him a regular on celebrity roast circuits. He was a source of attention because his jokes were mean and hurtful but the person on the receiving end would be laughing with joy. While he began as a traditional comedian with rehearsed jokes in mind, he quickly realized that his spontaneous remarks were more appreciated than the written material. His style endeared him to many of his fans, which included the great Frank Sinatra. He had two comedy albums, and appeared in a variety of film and TV shows. He was awarded numerous awards, including a "Lifetime Achievement" award at The Comedy Awards. He was a stand-up comedian and was rewarded with a variety of nicknames, including "The Merchant of Venom", 'The Insultan'  and 'Mr. Stand-up comedy was his initial step in earning extra cash. This was the time he developed his 'insult comedian persona. The 1970s saw him take on an important role in the blockbuster movie, Kelly's Heroes (1970), which starred Clint Eastwood. He appeared on a variety of TV comedy series like The Dean Martin Roasts' (1973) or The Don Rickles Program' (1972). Barbara Sklar was Don Rickles his wife on the 14th of March in 1965. They had two children, Mindy (the daughter) and Larry (the son). Their son died in the year 2011. Bob Newhart was his best friend and he often vacationed with his wife. They appeared together on many shows including "Newhart.' Don Rickles, who died on the 6th of April, 2017, due to kidney failure, died in his Beverly Hills, California home.
